About this ride

This is the gentlest way into gravel riding on the Mallorca programme: 34 km on wide riverside tracks with about 250 m of climbing in total. The surface is loose enough to teach you how a gravel bike behaves, but the tracks are broad and forgiving, so there are no technical descents or steep ramps to worry about.

The ride is built for people who have never ridden off tarmac, or who own a gravel bike and want to try it somewhere calm before committing to more. Expect a steady pace, time to get used to tyre pressure, braking and cornering on grit, and an easy rhythm along the water.

Compared with the other gravel options on the site, it is much shorter and flatter. The Mallorca forest gravel loop covers 72 km with about 1,050 m, and the Volcano gravel day climbs 1,600 m. This intro is where you learn the basics before choosing either of them.

Who this ride suits

This is an easy ride, aimed at first-time gravel riders, road cyclists curious about loose surfaces and anyone returning to cycling. You do not need racing fitness. If you can ride 34 km on a flat road at a relaxed pace, you can manage this. With only about 250 m of climbing spread over the whole distance, there are no sustained efforts. Riders who already enjoy forest tracks and long days will probably find it too gentle and should look at the forest gravel loop instead.

The terrain and what to expect

The route follows wide riverside tracks in Mallorca. Expect compacted gravel, some fine grit and the occasional looser patch, rather than rocks or roots. Because the tracks are broad, you can ride side by side, take a wide line through corners and adjust your position without traffic around you. Climbing is modest: a few short rises and gentle undulations add up to roughly 250 m. It is a good place to practise relaxed hands, a lower tyre pressure and braking earlier than you would on tarmac.

Gravel intro or something else?

Choose this tour if surface is the new thing you want to try. If you want a flat, traffic-free ride on a smooth path, the Mallorca greenway easy day is flatter at 180 m of climbing and 40 km. If you want sightseeing on an assisted bike, the old town e-bike ride is shorter at 22 km. For a full day on gravel, step up to the forest gravel loop once this ride feels comfortable.

Best time to ride

Mallorca is usually most comfortable for cycling in spring and autumn, when days are mild and the tracks are firm. Summer can be hot, so a morning start is the sensible choice, and heavy rain can soften riverside tracks. Check the available dates and start times when booking, and bring water, sun protection and a layer for cooler hours.

Good to know

Do I need gravel riding experience?

No. The ride is designed as an introduction, with wide tracks, about 250 m of climbing over 34 km and no technical sections.

How hard is it compared with the other gravel tours?

It is the easiest gravel option. The Mallorca forest gravel loop is 72 km with about 1,050 m of climbing, and the Volcano gravel day has 1,600 m.

Is it suitable if I normally ride a road bike?

Yes. The distance is moderate and the tracks are broad, so it is a good way to feel how a gravel bike handles before riding rougher routes. Check with the partner when booking about bike hire and sizing.

Is there much climbing?

Very little. The total is about 250 m across 34 km, made up of gentle rises rather than long climbs.
